Airport,

London Luton Airport operator commits to Net Zero

We are delighted that our operator, London Luton Airport (LLA) has signed up to the ‘Toulouse Declaration’, a commitment from over 35 European countries and 146 aviation industry stakeholders to transition to Net Zero emissions by 2050.

The Toulouse Declaration marks the first public-private global initiative on aviation decarbonisation, signees including European Governments, the European Commission, the wider industry, unions, and other key stakeholders.

London Luton Airport is a strong supporter of this critical movement, which will invest in the development and implementation of decarbonization technologies. This will include operations, next-generation aircraft, and engines, as well as different kinds of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

There is hope that the Toulouse Declaration will be a catalyst for change, leading the establishment of an EU Pact for Aviation Decarbonisation. Later this year the International Civil Aviation Organisation, a UN body, will set a global goal for the aviation industry.

Airports play a crucial role in the decarbonisation of aviation, which is why we must lead the industry towards net zero by taking actions to reduce our own emissions. As the airport owner, Luton Rising, we have also committed to a Net Zero target and will achieve Net Zero ground operations by 2040.

Our commitment to sustainable development is legally binding, as a part of our pioneering proposals for Green Controlled Growth. Read more about Green Controlled Growth and feedback on our public consultation here.
